Buying Guide for Choosing the Best 12 Foot Kayak Cover
1. Material Durability and Tear Resistance
For long-lasting kayak protection, choose covers made from heavyweight fabric such as 420D or 600D Oxford cloth. These materials provide high resistance to tearing, abrasions, and UV damage. Thicker fabrics generally last longer and better withstand unpredictable weather conditions.
2. Waterproofing and Coatings
Look for covers with a waterproof PU coating and sealed seams to prevent water penetration during rain or snow. An inner silver or reflective coating adds UV resistance to protect against fading and material degradation caused by sunlight.
3. Fit and Adjustability
A cover that fits snugly is essential to avoid wind flapping or water pooling. Adjustable straps, elastic drawstrings, and buckle closures help secure the cover tightly around the shape of your kayak, providing better protection and easy installation/removal.
4. Size Compatibility
Measure your kayak’s length and beam width carefully before purchasing. Most covers specify a size range or exact kayak lengths they fit. Opting for a size slightly larger than your kayak provides full coverage including accessories but avoid covers too loose to prevent wind damage.
5. Additional Features
- Breathability: Some covers incorporate breathable fabrics or venting to reduce mold and mildew buildup underneath.
- Ease of Use: Features like waterproof zippers and carrying/storage bags can enhance convenience.
- Multi-Purpose Use: Some covers fit not only kayaks but also canoes, paddleboards, and small boats.
Considering these factors ensures that you select the most effective and durable 12 foot kayak cover tailored to your kayak size and storage needs, whether indoor or outdoor.
